This beautifully presented period cottage would make an idyllic hideaway for a romantic getaway for two.

This spectacular area of natural beauty is unsurprisingly popular among keen walkers, with wonderful mountain, valley and lakeside routes on the doorstep. From the hamlet of Kentmere, a track leads to a splendid collection of mountain tops including Thornthwaite Crag, Froswick, High Street, Mardale Ill Bell and Harter Fell. Three miles from the cottage is the village of Staveley, which boasts typical Lakeland stone buildings, the Rivers Kent and Gowan, a beautiful church and selection of shops and inns. Also within easy reach is iconic Windermere, with its literary history, bustling centre and beautiful lake, while Kendal offers larger stores, supermarkets, art galleries, a theatre and cinema.

This delightful detached cottage is one of three properties huddled in this peaceful valley location. Leave muddy boots and coats in the small boot room area before continuing through to the farmhouse style kitchen. With a large dining table, Aga, exposed beams and quirky vintage touches, this is a charming room for enjoying candle-lit suppers. After meals, step through to the inviting sitting room where an inglenook fireplace with roaring wood burner, stylish sofas and cosy rugs await. From the small hall, stairs lead up to the king-size bedroom, which features a Victorian cast-iron bed, antique furniture and spectacular valley views through a charming sash window. The compact yet stylish bathroom next door has a handheld shower.

Outside, the communal gardens are rich in colour and scent during spring and summer. Take to one of the wooden benches to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or evening drink with a view. Or, if you’re feeling inspired, why not set up an easel in the adjoining open barn and paint the stunning view?

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

I compose this as I sit in the rocking chair at the kitchen table, with a glass of red wine in front of me, Classic FM playing in the background, whilst waiting for a homemade seeded loaf to bake in the AGA. Could it get any more idyllic? Reality however hits tomorrow when we have to leave this beautiful part of the the country. Our star in The NooRead morek has encompassed treacherous yet enjoyable walks in the fells, including a four hour trek from the cottage to the Kentmere Reservoir and another three hour walk to The Queens Head at Troutbeck. The thought of heading back to such a warm and cosy cottage to wine and dine and wind down in from of the log burner with a good game or book has proved a real treat. We will sorely miss the peace and tranquillity of the garden and surrounding fells. The views will stay with us for a long time to come. Thank you for the memories. Hide
