Take in the sea air with a walk along the sandy beaches at Maryport (4 miles) or discover the Aquarium at the marina. The adventurous type will enjoy the mountain bike trails in Whinlatter Forest (9.5 miles) or picturesque ambles around Loweswater (10 miles) or Buttermere (15 miles). Bassenthwaite Lake is the most northerly lake in the region and is a great place to head out on the water. On the northern shore of the lake, the Lakes Distillery offers tasting tours and is also home to a bistro and a group of resident alpacas that visitors are allowed to hand feed.
