Ideal for a romantic getaway, this wonderful and stylish cottage is perfectly situated to explore the magic of the North Lakes. With splendid views over Ullswater, you can enjoy the delightful seclusion.

This superbly appointed, traditionally built Lakeland miner's cottage has been recently sympathetically and comprehensively renovated. It sits near the gable-end of a terrace of rural stone-built cottages dating from the mid-1800s and is situated in a delightfully secluded wooded enclave. Its garden has splendid views out over Ullswater and the cottage is set back in an elevated position just half a mile from the road running alongside the lake. The property occupies a truly idyllic location, above Glencoyne Valley, with the slopes of Sheffield Pike behind, leading up to Helvellyn. The cottage is approached along an unmade woodland track and its garden is often visited by an abundance of wildlife, including red squirrels, in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You enter the property through a small porch giving onto the open-plan pitch-pine beamed kitchen/living room. The living area is comfortably furnished with a small sofa drawn facing onto an impressive double-doored wood burner. The kitchen area is served by an AGA stove and equipped with a Belfast sink, fridge, dishwasher, and beech-wood and butcher's block work surfaces. A small traditional dining table separates the kitchen and living area. The room is well lit, with wall-mounted and ceiling lighting. A short staircase leads to a well-furnished bedroom with a double bed and built in wardrobes. The wainscoted bathroom is entered directly from the bedroom and is equipped with a traditional roll-top bath, hand-held shower, basin, WC and heated towel radiator. The limed-oak floors of the bedroom and bathroom are served by underfloor heating.

Outside, the property boasts a shared lawned area looking over mature apple and thorn trees and across the valley. The lawn is bound on one side by mature mixed hedging and on the other is open to views of the lake The garden offers an enviable area in which to sit and enjoy the lake views, and is equipped with a garden bench and table for this purpose. The large local slate gravelled area offers excellent parking and a lovely outlook over the lake.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 1 bedroom - double

A lovely cottage in a peaceful setting gives you a true feel of the lakes. The only issue is the excessive heat pumped out by the Aga which is on 24 hours a day. Nevertheless we had a great time!

This cottage was an absolute gem! Cosy, quaint and we'll equipped to relax in after a days walking. It does get warm but leaving the windows open should do the trick, although I'm not sure how we'd fair in the hot summer months. There's lots of stunning walks straight from the doorstep. Simple perfect- cant wait to return and sincerely hope the owners will consider swapping the double for a king size bed? That would truly make for a luxurious and spoiling stay!

The cottage is beautifully decorated, and in an absolutely wonderful location for local walks. There is some discomfort, however, in that the heat from the Aga can overpower the small house. Luckily we had a cool August week, but still needed to open doors and windows just to cool the cottage down, and couldn't use the wood burning stove. It did drRead morey our wet walking gear beautifully though! Maybe a cottage that's better for winter? In spite of heat, however, we had a lovely stay. Hide

Lovely cosy cottage great views and in a quiet spot we think it's better for a quieter Place than the other lakes to stay but be wary of the rough track up to property we had a 4x4 but smaller vehicles could get damaged if your not careful.

The Aga was great to cook with. The downside however is that it generates so much heat the cottage felt a little too warm. The bath shower attachment was a little poor. We dont want this to distract from the quaintness of the cottage and the stunning location.

Great location, beautifully located, in fact perfectly located. Great for dogs and amazingly quiet. The dark sky is spectacular. The cottage itself, whilst compact is finished and fitted out very well indeed and was very clean.

It's a beautiful cottage, in a beautiful location. The perfect place to escape for a get away. There are lots of walks you can do straight from the cottage, and you can see Ullswater from the drive away. My only comment would be make sure you bring enough walking clothes if that's your plans for your trip as there isn't a washing machine.

We were recommended by a friend to rent Red Squirrel Den and we had a marvellous week. The location is stunning. The cottage is compact but well equipped including a reasonable internet connection (around 10 mbs). The full sized Aga is a bonus.
