Property code: 81263

A beautiful cottage offering stylish accommodation for four guests, finished to a high standard throughout to provide a chic holiday retreat set in an idyllic location with amazing views from the property.

To many who know the Lake District well, the Duddon Valley is the most beautiful and authentic valley in the Lake District, where you could easily believe that time has simply stood still. The River Duddon, which was immortalised by William Worthsworth, winds through the valley passing the beautiful hamlets of Ulpha and Seathwaite. There is plenty on offer for an amazing day out. Leave your car at the cottage and walk or cycle the numerous paths and tracks directly from Grass Guards. For the adventurous, climb at Wallowbarrow Crag or try wild swimming in the Duddon or nearby Eskdale Valley. Alternatively, travel over the stunning Wrynose Pass and through to the Langdale Valley or north over the challenging Hardknott Pass, the steepest road in England, pausing at Hardknott Roman Fort before descending to Eskdale and Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain. Head further to Wasdale and the majestic Wastwater, England's deepest lake.

Inside, the spacious summer room has a large sofa and armchairs, and is flooded with light with French doors that open to the patio and garden beyond giving stunning views over the valley to Coniston Fells. The cosy lounge area with sofas and armchairs is set around the coffee table and Smart TV. The contemporary kitchen has views over Harter Fell and is the real heart of the home, offering everything you could need during your stay including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher. The large dining table is an ideal spot to enjoy a Lakeland breakfast or a beautiful home-cooked family dinner. There is also a utility room, equipped with freezer and washer/dryer, which leads into a cloakroom. Heading to the first floor, there are two beautifully presented bedrooms. The first is a double bedroom with breathtaking views across the valley and an en-suite bathroom with bath and WC. The second bedroom is a double zip-and-link (can be made into a twin upon request), with a view to Harter Fell, and is complemented by an en-suite shower room with a shower and WC.

Outside the cottage, there is a beautiful patio which is a sun trap any time of day and offers stunning views of the fells. There is also a lawned garden area and off-road parking for two cars.

The cottage is amazing in every way - the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. Very clean, cosy and comfortable. We loved how remote it was and the views of the mountains are spectacular. Lots of walks from the cottage and nearby. I'm sure we will be back!

We absolutely loved staying here and highly recommend it! The views alone are amazing. The cottage has everything you could need, I love to cook and love to still be able to do this to my full extent on holiday and this was very easy to do here, every utensil, pan, and dish I needed was there. All furniture and decor has been carefully picked out. Read moreThe forestry track and ford were no problem for our Hyundai I30. The cottage is worthy of 5+ stars. We will be back! Hide

Grass Guards is remote but spectacular, warm and cosy with the most stunning views - everything we had hoped for from an autumn break in The Lakes. A walker's paradise. Thank you!

An absolutely fabulous cottage in an incredible location. One of the most beautiful places I have stayed in the Lake District. If you want solitude and a distinct sense of remoteness then this is the place to stay. The cottage is equipped to a very high standard but be prepared for intermittent mobile and Internet access, which isn't a bad thing!

It was for us what we had been looking for. The cottage is situated in a very special, quiet and secluded place. It has been very well and thoughtfully furnished and equipped by its owners. A lovely cottage with lots of room and bathrooms for 2 couples or a family. Great dining kitchen and sitting area for cooking, dining and interaction. Beautiful, well equipped, comfortable cottage, with attention to detail. Tranquil, remote setting with far reaching mountainous landscape. Ideal for walkers seeking the rural peace and quiet of nature. We preferred bottled water for drinking. We very much wish to return for a longer stay.
