Luxurious period cottage perfect for a romantic getaway in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Enjoy cosy nights in front of the roaring wood burner and admire the stunning views over Ullswater.

This beautiful, superbly appointed, traditionally built Lakeland miner's cottage has been recently comprehensively and sympathetically renovated. It forms the gable-end of a terrace of rural stone-built cottages dating from the mid-1800s and is situated in a delightfully secluded wooded enclave. This wonderful property looks out over Ullswater and is set back 1/2 mile from the road running alongside the lake. It occupies an idyllic location, above Glencoyne valley, with the slopes of Sheffield Pike behind leading up to Helvellyn. The cottage is approached along an unmade woodland track and the garden is often visited by red squirrels.

You enter the property through a small porch giving onto the kitchen/boot room, which is served by an Aga stove and equipped with a Belfast sink, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and beech-wood work surfaces. The kitchen window looks directly towards the lake. Next to the kitchen you find the original pitch-pine beamed living room, comfortably furnished with a large sofa and a magnificent log-burning stove. The dining table is set to the rear of the room. The room is well lit with wall-lights and table-lamps. The slate floors are served by underfloor heating should you require it. A short staircase leads to a large, light, well-furnished bedroom with a king-size bed and tastefully selected furniture. The wainscoted bathroom has extensive views over the lake and is entered directly from the bedroom. It is equipped with a traditional roll-top bath, hand-held shower, basin, WC and heated towel radiator. The limed-oak bedroom floor benefits from under-floor heating, whilst the bathroom is well heated by traditional radiators.

Venturing outside, the property boasts a shared lawned area looking over mature apple and thorn trees and across the valley. The lawn is bound on one side by mature mixed hedging and on the other is open to views of the lake The garden offers an enviable area in which to sit and enjoy the lake views and is equipped with a garden bench and tables for this purpose. The large local slate gravelled area offers excellent parking and an enviable outlook over the lake.

  • 1 bedroom - King-size
  • 1 en-suite bathroom
  • AGA oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine
  • Smart TV and 2 DAB radios
  • Wood burner – first basket of logs included
  • Regret no children or babies
  • Stairs in the property are steep with no handrail
  • There is parking next to the property for one vehicle, and parking generally available nearby for additional vehicles
  • The garden and gravelled area are shared with the adjacent property and garden furniture is in place all the year round
  • The property is accessed by an unmade track and should be accessible by all vehicles with appropriate care taken
  • Shop, pub and restaurants 2 miles

  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details

Lovely location and very peaceful although the access road is rough, steep and a problem for sportier cars. The staircase in the cottage is narrow and has tall steps, so be aware in case that's an issue.
