Stay in a traditional Cotswolds cottage

Kirsty 19 June 2017

The beautiful Cotswolds are easily accessible to so many and there are few better places to spend a summer holiday.

Buckland Cottage sleeps two to four people and is a true Cotswold holiday cottage from the outside, yet on the inside the owners have an eclectic mix of Scandinavian-influenced interiors and furnishings. With feature wallpaper from renowned Swedish craftsmen Sandberg, brushed velvet love seats in the lounge, and the Esse in the kitchen/diner, we love all the individual touches.

We've compiled a list of top ten things to do during your stay, to ensure you make the most of the beautiful surroundings and activities on offer...

  1. Enjoy the house!

You’ve arrived and you want to relax. It has a spacious lounge, a well-kept garden, and well-equipped kitchen to cook in… What more could you want? There is even a secret privy in the garden. If you want to walk up the lane for a posh G&T before your home cooked dinner, then Buckland Manor is two minutes from the front door.

  2. Visit Broadway Deli

It's a haven for local, seasonal and further afield produce. We met the owner Alan who showed us some of the tomatoes that were grown in Buckland and a local cheese, Saint Eadburgh, which is made in Broadway. Take back a wide variety of food to enjoy, from chocolate fudge cake and portions of lasagne to passion fruit curd. Reasonably priced and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable, it's a must-visit when in the area.

  3. Head to Broadway Tower

Six and a half miles from Buckland Cottage is Broadway Tower, one of England’s outstanding viewpoints, looking out to 16 counties. Located on the Cotswold Way, Broadway Tower is the perfect place to start a walk, be it a short circuit or hike.

  4. Take the kids to Broadway Activity Park

Located towards the top of the Broadway high street is a state of the art playground, with a climbing wall, zip wire and picnic area. Broadway Activity Park is a must for those with children. On your way back enjoy an ice cream from the resident ice cream lady from her bike - tried, tested and delicious!

  5. Get in touch with your creative side

If you love to have a nosey at anything arty, then you will enjoy the numerous galleries on Broadway High Street. Check out Mary Maags, John Noot and Broadway Modern Gallery.

  6. Take a hike along the Cotswold Way

If you’re keen walkers, use Broadway as a stop off as part of your walk along the Cotswold Way. It's a fantastic 102-mile-long stretch running from Bath to Chipping Campden, so you can take in a whole plethora of scenery as you stretch your legs along this famous path.

  7. Head to a nearby town

During your stay, visit one of the neighbouring Cotswold towns such as Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden or Bourton-on-the-Water. They all make great days out with a wealth of things to do.

  8. Eat out at The Horse and Groom

From traditional favourites to more creative foodie innovations, head chef and owner Will has the ability to tempt everyone to enjoy his fine food presented in style and served with friendly efficiency. We recommend you book ahead for lunch and dinner.

  9. Get cultural with a stately home visit

Who doesn’t love a wander round a stately English home and garden? Four miles away is from the cottage is Stanway House and Fountain. Stanway is an outstandingly beautiful example of a Jacobean manor house, owned by Tewkesbury Abbey for 800 years then for 500 years by the Tracy family and their descendants, the Earls of Wemyss. The fountain is a single-jet, and at 300 feet is the highest fountain in Britain and the highest gravity fountain in the world.

  10. Head on holiday during an event

Book your stay at Buckland Cottage around one of the many events that within the area. From The Big Feastival and the Cotswold Show Cirencenster, to the ever=opular Cotswold Food and Farming Show, there's plenty going on throughout the year to plan around.

If we've tempted you a little with our countdown, why not take a closer look at Buckland Cottage, and start planning your trip today.
