If you’re anything like us, hectic schedules, family obligations and social media (making you feel like you’ve caught up with old pals when in fact you’ve just seen a few status updates) can get in the way of spending precious time with your friends. Fond memories of long-distant hen weekends can only sustain you for so long, so why not resolve to catch up with friends more this year and book a weekend break with them?
You don’t have to play by the rules handed down to us from one romantic comedy to the next either. No need to bulk buy prosecco and Haagen Dazs and laugh your head off for the entire weekend (though you can if you want to, of course). If you and your friends would rather sign up to a charity challenge for the weekend and bond over that shared endeavour, or hire bikes and explore a new part of the country. You may wish to do that instead. The important part of this exercise is that you have time with friends doing whatever it is that makes you happy. Here are a few of our suggestions as a starting point…
Catch Up with Friends in the Peak District at Hawkesmoor Barn (Sleeps 6)
The Peak District is a great place to visit if you’d like an active break hiking up the tors, cycling around the country lanes or scaling rock faces on an adventurous mountaineering holiday. All these activities are within easy reach if you’re staying Hawkesmoor Barn which is a generous social space ideal for weekends away with family or friends. Originally part of the Chatsworth estate, this property for 6 is now a luxurious and comfortable base from which to explore the Peak District.
Whether you accept the challenge of an active holiday or gather the girls for a well-deserved lazy weekend of pampering and catching up, Hawkesmoor Barn won’t let you down (especially if you don’t mind bunking up and sharing the huge double beds in the three generously sized rooms!). It’s close to the thriving towns of Buxton and Ashbourne – ideal for leisurely cups of coffee in independent cafes and for sociable shopping sprees – but also to pretty villages such as Tissington and Hartington, so your break can be a diverse mix of culture, fresh air and relaxation!
