Brecon Beacons

The Brecon Beacons covering an area of 520 sq miles and four mountain ranges is a breathtaking landscape of sandstone peaks, open moorland and green valleys. This region understandably provides inspiration for many artists and photographers.
The Black Mountains in east of the Park border Herefordshire, in England. The Central Beacons rise above the town of Brecon with Pen y Fan at 886 metres being the highest point in southern Britain.
As you explore the mountains, caves and castles in the area you may see Welsh Mountain Ponies running wild and elegant Red Kites which are now thriving in the area.
Treat your senses and plan your visit around one of the world famous festivals; Hay-on-Wye Literature in May, Brecon Jazz in August and Abergavenny Food in September. They offer great cultural insight and give you a sense of local life.
The Brecon Beacons National park has a vast amount of outdoor activities on offer.
Fabulous walking – To suit all abilities from a stroll to full endurance and everything in between in areas such as:
- Hay Bluff,
- Offas’s Dyke path with views over the Black Mountains,
- Sugar Loaf - A must-do for walkers close to Abergavenny. It is a clear landmark and once at the top you get great views of the Brecon Beacons.

Mountain Biking
There are many, many mountain biking routes, activity centres and specialist companies in the Brecon Beacons area. It is a great place for mountain biking. If this is something that you are interested in and don’t want to take your mountain bike then we can suggest hire companies in your tailor made guide.
Abseiling
There are many centres that will offer abseiling around the area and you can do anything from a couple of hours try out to full training courses.
Mountain railway
The Brecon Mountain Railway is quite a long way but it is a nice drive to get there which takes you through some dramatic scenery. The train journey takes about 65 minutes including a 20 minute stop at the lake side cafe. Afterwards you can visit the sheds where all the maintenance is done.
