HilltopNear Betws y Coed, Snowdonia, Wales Sleeps 2–4

Welsh ponies and friendly sheep are your neighbours at Hilltop. Their relations used to sleep in the living room.

“Lovely location. the only sounds being sheep, owls and a cuckoo. Cottage has huge amounts of character and charm.” Claudia

Perched high above the valley floor on the crest of a hill, the rising tide of sunlight washes over Hilltop from sunrise to dinner time; there’s a view in every direction, only hidden when the mists fall or the clouds drift by.

Hilltop is a truly remote, rustic cottage, lovingly restored from tired farm buildings. Now a cherished family escape, it’s an opportunity to live a dream the owners made reality. Part of the hillside on the outside and soft and welcoming on the inside, simple but cosy living. A place to share or a place to reflect, but always a place that will make you sigh.

Hilltop is magical. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. We leave with our batteries recharged counting the days until we can return. We haven’t felt this relaxed for a very long time. …” Laura, May 2011

Christine Townsend loved her Spring stay at Hilltop she had an article published about it - “Sheepskinlife have come to the rescue. The concept is simple (yet so very difficult for so many to get right): a country cottage with the luxury hotel touch…”

Liz Neale of the Daily Mail enjoyed her escape at Hilltop- “…all the creature comforts a boutique hotel would offer..”

Country living with style & comfort

Inside Hilltop

  • You enter Hilltop into the Country kitchen, fully equipped for any cook, and with a quirky table, made by the owner, in front of the log burner.
  • The wonderful fireplace with large wood burner makes the kitchen a place you want to linger.
  • Tranquil and secluded self-catering made easy with a dishwasher & washing machine too.
  • There is a large, yet cosy lounge, full of character, with another log burner, dining table and TV in case you bore of the views of the valley.
  • The main double bedroom at the far end of the cottage has views from the bed piled with blankets & a big bedspread
  • A second double bedroom is on a mezzanine above the kitchen, warmed by the log burner below, this room is accessed via ladder steps and is curtained for privacy.
  • There is an additional single room which can be made up on request.
  • Simple bathroom fed by water from the hills but hotel luxuries with towels, soap & robes.

Outside Hilltop

  • Stroll around the open spaces, admire the view and marvel at the clarity of the stars.
  • Your friends in this remote cottage – sheep, ducks and ponies in the surrounding fields.
  • Enjoy uninterrupted views whilst enjoying a barbeque in the sheltered, private garden.

Things you should know

The lane to the top of the hill is quite rugged. We recommend 4×4 but if  you are a confident driver in a normal car you will be fine (except in the winter months, when there may be snow or ice).  People with low slung sports cars are best hitching a lift.

The water supply at Hilltop is delivered by the mountain, so back-to-back baths can sometimes take a little time.

The drinking water is also from the mountain. Some bottled water is provided and it’s best to bring some extra to be sure you have plenty.

Hilltop does not have central heating but once you have the log fires crackling, it soon warms up nicely. There are electric freestanding heaters to use if you need a boost in some areas but these should be used sparingly.

The second bedroom is up a rather steep ladder to a mezzanine above the kitchen area. It has a curtain but be sure that you don’t mind being seen in your pyjamas.

Mobile phone reception is good at Hilltop but not down in the valley. There is no internet facility at Hilltop.

Pets unfortunately can’t be accepted at Hilltop.

Hilltop Reviews

“What a magic weekend, wall to wall sunshine and everything we could want in the cottage, many thanks”. Jane, July 2011

“Absolutely love the cottage! Had a fantastic time despite the rain.  A truly magical location and will be back again in the future”, Daniel, May 2011

“I just had to contact you to say thank you for such a wonderful break.  And thank you very much for managing to arrange for the bottle of champage to be chilling in the fridge on our arrival.

It was our first break using Sheepskin, and it will not be our last.  I could not believe the guide but this was surpassed by the cottage. Every convenience catered for, but retaining the charm of the cottage – it seemed a shame to have to go out and do things!”  Judith & Mike, May 2011

Christine stayed at Hilltop in April and has posted a fantastic review on her personal blog…Read Christine’s review here

“Thank you very much for your fantastic service!  I had wonderful stay at Hilltop, what a beautiful place, the welcome box was much appreciated too!  Many thanks again and I hope to come back very soon !”  Tara, May 2011

“Hilltop is magical. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. We leave with our batteries recharged counting the days until we can return. We haven’t felt this relaxed for a very long time. Loved the tranquility, views, trees, garden, cosy fires and hiding away with your interesting books.  Obviously a much loved home.” Laura May 2011

“We’ve had a couple of lovely weeks staying at Sheepskin properties. Hilltop was lovely and Hafod was just perfect for the 2 of us. The Sheepskin ‘care package’ was luxury. Many thanks and look forward to being able to have another Sheepskin break again soon” Edward April 2011

“Lovely location. the only sounds being sheep, owls and a cuckoo. Cottage has huge amounts of character and charm. The 2 fires were my duty to maintain but gave the place a homely feel…Probably the best equipped kitchen of the tons of cottages we’ve stayed in, though excellent attention to detail made it feel more of a home than holiday rental…” Claudia, May 2010

“We had a completely fantastic time thank you. Sad to be back in the office of course! Hilltop was wonderful, the weather was fabulous and Sheepskin was tops!” – Liz April 2010
