Chescombe LodgeGreat Tew Estate, Cotswolds Sleeps 2–4
An indulgent space for four in a quiet Cotswolds valley
Just over an hour from London, hidden away in a quiet corner of the Great Tew estate in Oxfordshire; Chescombe Lodge is a luxurious house.
A magnificent and indulgent place whether you’re a couple or a family wishing to spend special time together. Located amongst rolling grassland, oak woods and traditional Cotwolds stone villages with a range of country pursuits on offer.
An 18th century barn sympathetically refurbished to keep the historic and rustic pedigree of the property, including the original well in the en-suite bathroom! Chescombe feels more like a luxurious shoot lodge or an opulent Ski Chalet than a Cotswolds cottage; with views of the rolling hills rather than ski slopes, the ambience and great times you have here can be just the same.

- In each of the luxurious bedrooms there is a wide-screen TV, with SKY TV. In the living area there is a Vita Audio iPod dock and radio so don’t forget your iPod.
Outside
- Chescombe Lodge is hidden away along a private track, used only by you, the estate’s gamekeepers and the occasional rambler.
- There is plenty of parking to the side of the house for at least four cars (though hopefully your environmental conscience will mean you will not need that much space!)
- The detached and secluded barn is in a very peaceful location within the Cotswold estate of Great Tew and yet is within 1 mile of two award-winning pubs.
Things you need to know
- Access to Chescombe Lodge is via an unsurfaced, private track so can be a little muddy and pot-holed.
- The track is used by the estate’s gamekeepers and walkers so there may be the occasional passer by.
- Chescombe Lodge is a long way from the nearest street light. If you arrive at night the lights will switch on automatically outside the front door and by the car parking area but if you venture further than this then be sure to bring a torch.
- Heating in the cottage is from under-floor heating, the open fire is not needed for warmth but is wonderful to add atmosphere to any evening.
- There isn’t a telephone at Chescombe Lodge, there will be wi-fi internet access (from early in 2012). Mobile reception is good for Vodafone but not for O2 or Orange.
- Pets unfortunately cannot be accepted at Chescombe Lodge.

Chescombe Lodge Reviews
Chescombe Lodge joined Sheepskin in December of 2011, so until now only a lucky few people have had the privilege of enjoying this place other than the owner who loves his time there with family and friends.
“I (Helen) have stayed there too and it is an absolutely wonderful place inside and out. Pure indulgence of luxurious space and well chosen furnishings and decor have transformed this place into a great place to escape.”
Don’t take our word for it though read what our guests have said here or experience Chescombe Lodge, explore the Cotswolds and write a review yourself…
“The directions to the property were excellent, and even in the dark we were able to find the cottage with ease, and it was wonderful to walk through the door and feel the warmth of the underfloor heating through our socks! I have rarely stayed in accommodation that has been of such high quality. The quality of the build and furnishings was second to none, and it felt truly luxurious. As two couple’s, it was nice to have bedrooms at each end of the property, and the roll top backs were a real treat, especially given the stunning views from every room. The welcome hamper and kitchen basics made it easier to travel light to the cottage, and was incredibly convenient. And the newspaper and warm bread delivery on the Saturday morning were a welcome treat ahead of a day out walking in the countryside. There are lots of walks to do near the property, and we found the maps provided very helpful. The Hook Norton brewery is also well worth a visit. Overall, a super place to stay and I am sure we will return.” LThorpe, Dec 2012
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Chescombe Lodge. It is so luxurious and grand that when staying there I felt like a princess. From the four post bed, down to the leather light switches, every finishing touch is perfect.” Emma
