Lianna and Hannah's weekend in Bath

Hannah 16 November 2016

Lianna and Hannah’s long weekend in Bath – A weekend of comedy for four guests!

The Bath Christmas Market is on, it’s Hannah’s birthday, our favourite comedian is in town and there’s a nearby Park Run…A great excuse to spend a fun packed long weekend in Bath at the charming Laundry Cottage!

We began the easy journey to Combe Hay from our office in the Cotswolds on a perfect sunny and crisp winter afternoon…just over 2 hours later and we are already indulging in the cosy atmosphere at Laundry Cottage. Low lighting, warmth and soothing music greeted us as we entered this sanctuary of traditional delights…not to mention the addition of Penny’s homemade brownies!

Culture vultures in Bath

After a cuppa and quick chill out, we headed out for our evening of face-aching laughter with Tommy Tiernan at Komedia in Bath city…but first things first…Food! Komedia is very conveniently located within a stone’s throw of many restaurants so we hopped over the road to The Stable Pizza & Pie Restaurant. Great choice, fast service, bustling and quirky vibe and the most delicious homemade pizza…perfect for last minute dining decisions! The Komedia is an intimate and relaxed, yet sophisticated venue, so is ideal for a night of stand up comedy.

Lazy, relaxing days at Laundry Cottage

The following morning we made the most of our relaxed plans for the day and enjoyed a well earned lie in…It was a very easy option considering the beds are super comfy and that ‘home from home’ feeling you get from Laundry Cottage. Fresh coffee, homemade brunch and a lazy morning was the perfect set up for the day…One of the great perks of self catering; all can be done at your own leisure. We headed the short drive into Bath again, this time for an afternoon of festive market shopping, mulled wine and exploring the stunning Spa city. We finished up with an early dinner at Opa (a Greek restaurant with a modern vibe, set in an old converted cellar and makes for great sociable dining).

After our successful day out and filling up on Greek meze, we were very excited to get back to the cottage for an evening of wine, music and an insanely humorous game of ‘Absolute Balderdash’! We had the log burner going and really made ourselves at home. Nights in like this are what it’s all about and Laundry Cottage offers the whole package; that warm atmosphere we often find ourselves searching for in our own homes, but don’t always achieve. Parkrun, a hearty breakfast and a movie marathon Up surprisingly bright and early on a Saturday morning, Hannah and I were kitted out ready for the Bath Skyline Park Run (and Jon and Diarmuid in their winter warmers ready for a bit of side-line support!). Hannah a seasoned long distance runner, and myself a fun runner (with very little clue!), have a new -found love for the social side of Park Run and what a great excuse to explore more of the UK. An invigorating 5km later, we felt we had earned a decent brunch and headed to the Secret Garden Cafe located at Prior Park Farm Shop. We treated ourselves and our ‘supportive crew’ to the full English, followed by a meander around the Aladdin’s cave of gifts galore in the farm shop.

After our morning run, a bit of gift shopping and refuelling, we had convinced ourselves that Saturday afternoon was best spent being lazy! We had the perfect setup at Laundry Cottage, with a cosy corner sofa, a rocking chair for fidgety me, blankets and cuppas all round, we had assumed a laid back position for an afternoon of back to back movies. And you guessed it, our (Lianna and Hannah’s) first choice was ‘The Holiday’…It could not have been any more fitting!

Once movie number three had come to an end, it was time for Diarmuid (our designated chef!) to get the roast on the go. We took great pleasure in the mouth watering aromas coming from the kitchen whilst we sipped chilled Prosecco! A Saturday roast was just right for this chilly winter evening, followed by a stroll to The Wheatsheaf for a little more wine! We received a warm welcome from the friendly staff, who happily let us stay longer than the average village pub would allow! Our casual Saturday finished on the energetic high of ‘name that tune’ using the Ruark sound system, which of course involved totally unnecessary dancing from myself and Hannah! We were woken up by an idyllic winter morning on the Sunday; flawlessly frosty and crystal clear sunshine. However, we were feeling a little sombre on such a beautiful day, as we knew today we were going home and leaving this all behind. To make the most of this serene December morning we fuelled up on home cooked breakfast and wrapped up like Russian dolls we headed out for a Sunday stroll. It turned out to be quite an adventure…passing magnificent homes, monuments, fields, rivers and having a long chat with the very friendly cows, before casually looping our way back to the cottage. It was a superb note to end on! Laundry Cottage truly is a home that feels so comfortably far from reality, yet so close to all of our favourite things.
