Cottages near Festivals

There are many great reasons to escape to one of Sheepskin’s collection of self catering properties throughout the year including the wide range of local events and festivals that you can enjoy during your stay. Choose from romantic cottage hideaways with nearby jazz and book festivals or rare and remarkable houses close to walking and food festivals.

Here we highlight Sheepskin properties that offer a sumptuously comfortable place to stay in mesmerising locations along with the opportunity to attend an inspirational festival.

Literary and Music Festivals

The Hay Festival is among the largest literary get-togethers.  The festival is not limited to the strictly literary; there are a number of concerts and comedy shows on offer.
Hafod Glan Gwy or Knightsfield are well worth a visit at any time of year, with many outdoor activities and great local restaurants nearby that Sheepskin can recommend but particularly for the Hay festival (26 May – 6 June 2011)

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is a six-day festival of music, dance, and song that takes place every year in Llangollen.  In 2011 the dates are 4th – 10th July.
Enjoy the benefit of the Snowdonia mountains as well as the music of the Eisteddfod when you stay in style at Old Farm just 13 miles from the festival or a little further away at Hilltop or Tailor’s Cottage both in Snowdonia National park.

The Buxton Festival, a feast of opera, music and literature with literary sessions in the mornings, afternoon concerts and rarely performed opera in the evenings in the beautiful Buxton Opera House 9th -27th July. Supported by the UK Arts Council and considered by some to be amongst the best arts festivals in the UK with ome stunning venues including the Palace Hotel and Devonshire Dome.
A fantastic opportunity to combine the enjoyment of culture with the enjoyment of nature by staying at Music Mill, only a 30 minute drive from Buxton.

Later in the summer and again just a 30 minute drive from Music Mill but perhaps more suited to the younger crowd is The Y Not Festival, 5th – 7th Aug in a field near Matlock. Describing itself as Small Fresh and Loud this festival features new and upcoming bands across a diverse range of genres including indy, pop and jazz.

The Brecon Beacons are the place to be in August with the Brecon Jazz festival, 12th -14th August and the Green Man music festival, 19th-21st August.
Stay at Hafod Glan Gwy or Cider House for a cosy and romantic base or bring a group of friends and stay at Knightsfield.

Food Festivals

South Wales is the place to be if you love food, at any time you can visit some great restaurants and local produce shops but 17th -18th September the Abergavenny food festival gives you an opportunity to sample lots of local delights with a great programme of events.
The closest Sheepskin cottage is Cider House which is just 7 miles from Abergavenny.  Hafod Glan Gwy and Knightsfield also make great bases for the festival and the Brecon Beacons, around 20 miles from Abergavenny.

This autumn’s Exmoor food festival has 8 days, 1st to 9th October, of events ranging from indulgent cream teas to game suppers, from tasting platters to a beast of a brunch.  Taste a wealth of local food and drink ‘under one roof’ at both the Porlock Food Fayre and the Lynmouth Producers Market.  This year the food festival is being run in parallel to the Exmoor walking festival so you can enjoy guided walks with stops at local eating places.
Staying at Shell House in Porlock Weir you will be central to the various events running.
