12 Things to do…Visit a music festival!

This summer in the UK there are music festivals to suit every musical taste and at each one you will find an eclectic mix of people and music.

Llangollen eisteddfod
Since 1947 Llangollen has hosted the world at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.  Each July, between 2000 and 5000 competitors and as many as 50,000 visitors have been eager to witness the dazzling spectacle and experience the magic.  One of the world’s most inspirational cultural festivals, with a unique combination of competition and performance, with a diverse range of artists, from McFly to Russell Watson, Lulu to Julian Lloyd Webber there will be something to suit every musical taste!   This year the festival runs from 4-10th July with tickets starting from £20.

Tailor’s Cottage, Hilltop and Old Farm are not far away from Llangollen if you are looking for a base for the festival.

Two very different festivals near the Music Mill in the Peak District:
The Y Not Festival, 5th-7th August 2011, describes itself as the Small Fresh and Loud festival weekend set in the idyllic surroundings of the Derbyshire Peak District.  With a great mix of music from pop and indy to jazz the festival will have a range of new and upcoming bands playing. The line up includes Maximo Park, Dinosaur Pile Up, Karima Francis and Beardyman!  It has got to be worth a visit…

The Buxton Festival, 9-27 July 2011, is a feast of opera, music and literature, set in the beautiful Peak District. Ranging from classical to Bulgarian folk music and with an appearance by Dame Ellen McArthur the festival looks like an event not to miss.
The Peak District hills host a friendly crowd of opera, music and literature lovers from all over the country during July’s Buxton Festival.  A morning literary series, afternoon concerts and rarely-performed opera in the evening offer a rich and unique cultural experience, attracting big names and a faithful audience to an historic and beautiful setting.
